Monday Morning Muse: Psyche

This pencil drawing by American artist Arthur Bowen Davies was gifted to the Mead in 1956. You can see other works from the collection by Davies, including one of my favorites, Spring Ecstasy, by clicking here.

Monday Morning Muse: She Sleeps

This drawing by American artist George Bellows, gifted to the Mead in 1974, is one of my favorites from the collection. I’m drawn in by the simple lines and cozy composition, the charming caption written in the artist’s own hand, the sleeping subject’s open mouth, and the shadows that create her twin-size bed. If, like me, you’re taking some time off work this week, or end up in a food coma after eating too much Thanksgiving turkey, here’s to sleeping in!
