Monday Morning Muse: Spring Ecstasy

1950_56

Welcome back to another semester’s worth of Monday Morning Muses! It’s the first Monday of Spring classes here at Amherst College and we’re definitely wishing it felt a little more like Spring outside; it’s a chilly 16 degrees out there and a winter storm is on its way. But when the icy snow finally melts a few short months from now, we’ll be able to shed our winter coats and enjoy the warm spring air like the beautiful muse by American artist Arthur Davies pictured above. So hang in there, New England! And remember, warm weather is just around the corner. 🙂

Happy MLK day! In celebration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, we’re sharing this print from the collection illustrating the iconic civil rights hero. The print joined the Mead’s collection in 1994.

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2013! Hope you all had a fabulous time ringing in the new year.

The photograph above by American artist Joel Meyerowitz, titled New Years Eve, NYC (Kiss me, stupid), was gifted to the Mead in 2000. The background marquee in the photo advertises the romantic comedy Kiss Me, Stupid, and serves as the perfect backdrop for this romantic moment Meyerowitz captured in 1965.
